- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- Additional sugar for caramelizing
Instructions
- Cut the brioche bread into thick slices and arrange them in a greased baking dish.
- In a bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
- Pour the mixture over the bread slices, ensuring they are well soaked.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the French toast for 30-35 minutes until golden and set.
- In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat and toast the top of the French toast until golden.
- Sprinkle sugar on top and caramelize with a kitchen torch or under the broiler until golden brown.
- Serve warm, optionally with fresh berries or maple syrup.
Notes
Make sure to let the bread soak long enough to absorb the custard mixture thoroughly. Control your heat carefully when caramelizing the sugar.
