Description
Glossy, nostalgic, and fun to make these homemade candy apples are the perfect fall treat for parties, gifting, or cozy weekends at home.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 small firm apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup light corn syrup
- ¾ cup water
- ½ teaspoon red food coloring
- Wooden skewers
- Optional toppings: crushed cookies, caramel drizzle, or sprinkles
Instructions
- Wash and dry apples thoroughly, removing any wax coating. Insert skewers firmly.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir until sugar dissolves.
- Place over medium-high heat and cook without stirring until temperature reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
- Remove from heat and quickly stir in food coloring.
- Dip each apple, twirling to coat evenly.
- Place on parchment paper to cool and harden.
Notes
Dry apples completely to ensure candy sticks. Work quickly once syrup hits 300°F. Smaller apples are easier to coat. Add toppings immediately before the candy sets.
