Description

Glossy, nostalgic, and fun to make these homemade candy apples are the perfect fall treat for parties, gifting, or cozy weekends at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 small firm apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup light corn syrup
  • ¾ cup water
  • ½ teaspoon red food coloring
  • Wooden skewers
  • Optional toppings: crushed cookies, caramel drizzle, or sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry apples thoroughly, removing any wax coating. Insert skewers firmly.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  3. In a saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir until sugar dissolves.
  4. Place over medium-high heat and cook without stirring until temperature reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
  5. Remove from heat and quickly stir in food coloring.
  6. Dip each apple, twirling to coat evenly.
  7. Place on parchment paper to cool and harden.

Notes

Dry apples completely to ensure candy sticks. Work quickly once syrup hits 300°F. Smaller apples are easier to coat. Add toppings immediately before the candy sets.
