Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk (whole or 2%)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for the swirl)
  • For the glaze: 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet, alternating with the milk.
  6. Pour about two-thirds of the batter into the prepared pan and smooth it out.
  7. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter to create the cinnamon swirl.
  8. Dollop spoonfuls of the cinnamon mixture over the batter and drop remaining batter in dollops on top.
  9. Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the top.
  10. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until the center is set. Rotate the pan halfway through.
  11. While the cake cools, whisk glaze ingredients until smooth.
  12. Spoon the glaze over the warm cake before serving.

Notes

Let the cake set for 10 minutes before glazing. For a softer texture, bake at the lower end of the time range.
