Description
A dreamy orange creamsicle cake with layers of citrus and vanilla – light, fluffy, and perfect for birthdays.
Ingredients
1 box orange cake mix (or use homemade batter)
3 large eggs
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 cup buttermilk or orange soda
1 tbsp fresh orange zest
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup whipped topping or cream cheese frosting
Optional: orange slices, zest curls for garnish
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease two 8-inch cake pans.
2. In a large bowl, mix cake mix, eggs, oil, buttermilk, orange zest, and vanilla until smooth.
3. Divide the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
4. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
5. Let cakes cool completely before removing from pans.
6. Frost the first layer with whipped topping or frosting, then stack the second layer.
7. Frost the top and sides generously.
8. Chill for at least 1 hour before slicing.
9. Garnish with orange zest or slices if desired.
Notes
Make it ahead by freezing unfrosted cake layers up to 1 month.
For a lighter version, substitute Greek yogurt for oil.
Add mandarin orange pieces between layers for extra texture.
