Description

Easy 6-Ingredient Lentil Burgers are a wholesome, hearty, and flavorful plant-based meal made with simple ingredients. Perfect for weeknight dinners or weekend gatherings with friends and family.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups dried red lentils
  • 2 large garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 large shallot (or 1 small onion, about 1/3 cup, diced)
  • 1/3 cup grated carrots (about 3 small)
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Neutral flavored cooking oil (for pan-frying, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400ºF and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Soak the lentils in water (about 2 inches above) for two hours, then rinse and drain well.
  3. In a food processor, combine drained lentils, garlic, shallot, carrots, tomato paste, cilantro, salt, and pepper. Pulse until the mixture holds together, scraping down the sides as needed.
  4. Shape about ¼ cup of the mixture into patties, about ½ inch thick.
  5. Option 1 – Bake: Bake for 10 minutes, flip, and bake another 10 minutes until crispy.
  6. Option 2 – Pan-Fry: Heat oil in a skillet and cook patties for about 4 minutes per side until golden and crisp. Drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve with a bun, salad, or roasted potatoes.

Notes

Soak the lentils for the best texture. Add breadcrumbs if the mixture feels too wet. Try adding cumin, chili powder, or your favorite herbs for extra flavor.
