Ingredients

  • 4 chicken pieces (legs, thighs, or breasts)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, marinate the chicken pieces in buttermilk for at least 2 hours, or ideally overnight for the best results.
  2. In another bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, letting the excess drip off.
  4. Dredge each piece in the seasoned flour, ensuring it is well-coated.
  5. For extra crispiness, dip the flour-coated chicken back into the buttermilk and then again into the flour.
  6. Heat the oil in a deep skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat.
  7. Fry the chicken in batches, cooking until golden brown and cooked through, about 12-15 minutes per side.
  8. Remove the chicken and place it on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  9. Serve hot and enjoy your crispy fried chicken!

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze it but note that the coating may lose its crunch.
