Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes.
  3. In a bowl, mix together heavy cream, garlic, salt, and pepper. Pour half of this mixture over the potatoes.
  4. Sprinkle half of the cheddar cheese and Parmesan over the first layer.
  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheeses.
  6. Dot the top with butter and sprinkle with thyme if using.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and the potatoes are tender.
  9. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For crispy top, broil the potatoes for a few minutes after baking. Thinly slice the potatoes for even cooking.
