Description
Delicious homemade soft pretzels with a crisp outside and tender inside, perfect for snacking or serving with dips.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 and 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 and 1/2 cups warm water
- 4 and 1/2 cups flour
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 2 tsp salt
- 6 cups water
- 2 tbsp baking soda
- 1 egg
- Coarse salt (for topping)
- Everything but the bagel seasoning (for topping)
Instructions
- Combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer. Whisk well and let sit for 5-10 minutes or until foamy.
- Add flour, olive oil, and salt to the bowl. Knead for about five minutes until the dough forms a ball.
- Remove the dough, add olive oil to the bowl, place the dough back in, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise for an hour.
- Punch down the risen dough and section into 12 even pieces. Roll each piece into a rope and shape into pretzels.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F.
- Boil 6 cups of water with 2 tbsp baking soda. Dip each pretzel in the boiling water for 15-30 seconds.
- Place pretzels on a parchment-lined baking sheet, brush with egg wash, and sprinkle with toppings.
- Bake for 10-11 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and cool on a wire rack.
Notes
Serve warm with cheese dip, mustard, or a sweet cinnamon butter. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
