Ingredients

- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- White icing for decorating
- Red and green food coloring
- Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a bowl, mix together flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
- Cream together the butter and sugar until smooth.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla.
- Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
- Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls and place onto ungreased baking sheets.
- Flatten each ball with the bottom of a glass, and decorate with white icing and sprinkles.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven.
Notes
For cleaner decorated shapes, chill the dough 20 minutes before baking. You can mix the dough ahead and keep it covered in the fridge for up to 48 hours.
