Description

A warm, savory dish of thinly sliced potatoes layered with onions and cheese, baked in cream until tender and bubbling.


Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded gruyere cheese
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a baking dish with butter.
  3. Layer half of the potatoes and half of the onions in the dish. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Sprinkle half of the cheddar and half of the gruyere cheese over the potatoes and onions.
  5. Repeat the layering with the remaining potatoes, onions, and cheeses.
  6. Pour the heavy cream over the entire dish, ensuring it covers the layers.
  7. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  9. Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, use fresh herbs like parsley or chives on top before serving. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days, and can be reheated in the oven for best results.
