Description

Delightful Japanese fish-shaped pastry that’s crispy on the outside and filled with sweet goodness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Red bean paste or any sweet filling (chocolate, custard, etc.)
  • Oil for cooking

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, milk, sugar, baking powder, egg, and salt. Mix until smooth.
  2. Preheat a taiyaki mold or fish-shaped pan over medium heat, and lightly grease it with oil.
  3. Pour a small amount of batter into one side of the mold, add a spoonful of your desired filling, and then cover with more batter.
  4. Close the mold and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
  5. Remove from the mold and serve warm.

Notes

Serve warm topped with powdered sugar or alongside whipped cream and fruit. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
