- 6–7 Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¾ cup old-fashioned oats
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
- ¼ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 baking dish.
- In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and half of the brown sugar.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- In another bowl, combine oats, flour, remaining brown sugar, salt, and cold butter.
- Use your hands or a pastry cutter to mix until crumbly. Stir in nuts if using.
- Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes or until topping is golden and apples are bubbling.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy with ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
Use a mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples for a sweet-tart balance. To make ahead, prep filling and topping separately, refrigerate, and assemble just before baking.
